For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. -2 Timothy 1:7 ESV
You know what they say about fear. You need to face it. Overcome it. There’s nothing to fear but fear itself, right? Wrong. Maybe that’s true for some things, but there are many things that are worth being afraid of. Death apart from Christ is a very fearful thing.
Failure to be who we were made to be is a very fearful thing. And there are many others. So what do you do in the presence of fear? Don’t face your fear, face Christ. There is a life-giving, fear-overcoming, truth in the Bible for everything worth being afraid of.
But you have to be willing to seek it, believe it, and live it. Sound risky? It is. The presence of fear is also the opportunity for adventure and a life worth living. But you have to have the proper weapons in order to defeat such a powerful enemy.
When you face fear you also face failure and your inability to handle life. And the more fear you have, the less capable you feel. But here is the promise when you face Christ… Power, love, self-control. These are the promises that await you in the presence of fear.
What are you afraid of today? This week? This year? How can you release your own ability to face it and draw strength from the person of Jesus Christ?
- Thank God for His mighty power that lives within you and allows you to face fear head on.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you so you can boldly go forward.
