Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. -Proverbs 1:8-9 NIV
Young people often make the mistake of ignoring the advice and wisdom of the generations that have gone ahead of them and end up making short-sighted choices that have far-reaching consequences. Later in life, most can see the advantages of learning from those who have more experience and insight.
Often those who aren’t well-grounded in the faith, make a similar mistake spiritually. Without a solid foundation built upon the Word of God, it’s easy to overvalue what emotions or circumstances seem to tell you and, as a result, finding yourself making easily avoidable mistakes.
But as you begin to mature in the Lord, and learn to listen to what He says through the Scriptures, God’s truth rises to the surface and becomes more valuable than the other (and often louder) voices in the world. As you follow and obey His instructions, they will encircle your life with honor and spiritual blessing, and adorn it with the rich beauty of godliness, faithfulness and devotion that will be attractive to those around you.
Prayer Focus
Ask God for eyes to see the superiority of His Word to any false truth in the world today.
Commit to seek God through His Word before you make the decision your are facing today.
