3 Steps to a Relatable & Powerful Devotion
Thank you for your desire and passion to use your writing gifts and talents to write for Bayside Devotional.
Below are some guidelines as you create your content. Your devotion should relate biblical truth to real life. Please avoid being wordy, writing cliché phrases, or overusing words. Avoid using all capital letters.
When considering how to write your devotional, try to follow this three-part structure.
1. Title + Scripture - Use a short scripture passage (25 words or less). Any more than that may be difficult for the readers to remember.
2. The Illustration - Use 200-250 words to illustrate your main point: an anecdote, a conversation, a statistic, an object lesson, an interesting fact, or a question. Draw your reader in by using the illustration to connect the scriptural principle to real life as you state your points.
3. The Takeaway - This element challenges the reader to apply the devotion’s lesson and live it out. A good takeaway encourages readers to take action and live differently after reading the devotion.
