Correction And Guidance

“The people I love, I call to account – prod and correct and guide so that they’ll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!” -Revelation 3:19 MSG

When God calls you to account, He does it to keep you from engaging in undesirable attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. Whether it comes through a godly friend, or from God Himself, the goal is for conviction to settle in and change your heart. This is what will keep you from the entanglements that ultimately weigh you down and hinder your freedom in Christ.

A proper response to correction requires humility and a teachable spirit, because resisting correction can harden your heart and dull you to the Holy Spirit’s leading. This isn’t when you to try to defend yourself; it’s time to quickly admit the truth and embrace God’s wisdom. Receiving a rebuke from the heart of God brings life and isn’t condemning. God never corrects His children in anger, but out of a desire to see them live in the best way possible.

Receiving God’s guidance should lead to thankfulness that He loves you enough to call you back into a right relationship with Him and other people. When you receive correction and guidance from God, it makes room for an increase of His peace, provision and purpose in your life.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask the Lord to help you quickly admit the truth and embrace His wisdom when it comes to receiving correction and guidance
  • Pray for humility and a teachable spirit when you are called to account through a godly friend or from God Himself.
