At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split
–Matthew 27:51 NIV
During the fourth year of King Solomon’s reign, he began to have a temple built in Jerusalem. In the temple, there was a 60-foot curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. Each year the High Priest would enter to atone for the sins of the people (Yom Kippur). The Israelites brought their sacrifices only as far as the Holy Place. If they entered the Most Holy Place, they would die. That restriction changed the moment Jesus went to the Cross and died for you. He was the once-and-for-all sacrifice so yearly sacrifices are no longer necessary.
You now have direct access to the Father. You are not separated from Him. You can go directly to Him because now Christ is your High Priest. Hebrews 10:19-20 (NLT) tells you, “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.” It is a privilege that cost the Son of God a great price. You are a beloved child, forgiven and loved, with direct access to the Father.
- Thank God for sending His one and only Son to take your place.
- Thank God the Father that you can go directly to Him in prayer and know He is always ready to listen.
