It seems to me that God has put us who bear his Message on stage in a theater in which no one wants to buy a ticket. We’re something everyone stands around and stares at, like an accident in the street. We’re the Messiah’s misfits. -1 Corinthians 4:9 MSG
Today’s devotional is for God’s children who feel misplaced. The Messiah’s misfits who think that perhaps God has forgotten that they even exist.
In the movie, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, there’s an “Island of Misfit Toys” where the broken, defective and unwanted toys live. For various reasons these “misfits” were not chosen to be placed in homes. However, toward the end, the grieving misfits cheered up when Santa and Rudolph arrived to pick them up and find them homes where they’d be loved and enjoyed by others.
If you’ve been feeling as though you’re one of God’s misfits, know that God chose you to be a part of His workshop—the church—filled with broken, hurting, misfit people. He cherishes you and has a good cause for your life. He knew what He was getting into when He adopted you into His family. You are no accident, nor surprise to Him. You actually hold a valuable role in God’s master plan being put together, not by man, but by God.
Today, start re-believing that God is for you and that He has a plan and purpose for your existence.
- Pray that God would increase your faith in believing His greater plan and vision for your life.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into your “fitting” role in service to God and His church.
