Financial Wisdom

“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” –James 3:16-17 ESV

Dave Ramsey says, “Live like no one else, so you can LIVE like no one else.” The idea is to live small and within your means so that you can have power over your spending, instead of your spending having power over you.

That’s an interesting concept in an economy that begins mailing credit card offers to 18 year olds. The credit companies will tell you that without credit, you’ll never be able to buy anything.

It’s all a matter of perspective. James 3:16-17 talks about wisdom of this world vs. heavenly wisdom. The only wisdom you will live under is the wisdom you are willing to live under.

If you are willing to walk in the wisdom that God is in control of the outcome, then you will walk in peace.

Pastor Burnard Scott, from Bayside Community Church, says that when you are praying and believing for great things, your faith can’t be in the outcome, but rather needs to be in the Person.

If your faith is in the outcome, you have made the outcome your god. Begin to walk in God’s wisdom knowing that He is in control of finances. He is going to take care of you as you begin prioritizing your money according to His order.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for God to give you wisdom concerning your finances.
  • Thank God for giving you guidance on how to use your money.
