Finding Rest

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalm 46:10 NIV

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalm 46:10 NIV

God made you uniquely and He reaches you in your own special way. But sometimes He allows you to have no stimulation, no outside sources, and no distractions. There’s something beautiful that happens when you are quiet. You hear more, you see more, and you experience more.

A time of rest and quiet allows for the inner man of the heart—the Spirit of God that lives inside of you—to speak directly to you. Relaxing, decreasing your activity, and letting go of your worries allows opportunities for you to experience or to know God on an even greater level.

An experience is something that requires use of one or more of your five senses—hear, touch, taste, smell, and see. If you’ve ever fasted—you’ve probably experienced God on another level or with greater intensity than at other times.

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. ~ Mark 4:39

When you are facing or fighting violent forces, when you feel like you will drown, your savior stands against the forces trying to move against you, He commands that they be calm, He demands that they be reduced to silence.

Spend some quiet time with God–truly quiet. Turn your TV off, don’t listen to music, and don’t answer the phone. Listen to God. He’s talking.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for a greater ability to get quiet and listen when God is speaking.
  • Pray that you are able to find a time to spend with God each and every day.
