Don’t Do Life Alone

For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! -1 Corinthians 9:16 NIV

You aren’t meant to live the Christian life alone. Community is a concept found throughout the Bible. Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Today’s verse certainly includes the directive of preaching the Gospel to those who don’t know Jesus but how about preaching to those who do?

Talk to somebody who is heavily involved in ministry and ask them why they serve. They will probably talk about how God changes them; how He ministers to them and grows them as they serve others in His name. Serving changes you as much or more than it changes others. God uses your service to do something amazing in your life.

Do you feel a little unfulfilled? Like God is far away despite your efforts to know Him better? Sometimes the simple act of serving gives us that extra boost we need. After all, God wired us to be servants to Him and those around us.

Preaching often happens with a kind word, a gift card given to somebody who is struggling financially, or joining a small group at your church. You don’t have to be an eloquent speaker to preach the Gospel.

Ask God to reveal to you how He wants you to preach the Gospel. He might put people in your path that need your help or reveal an opportunity that fits your skill set perfectly. You don’t have to serve on every volunteer committee at your church. Find your passion and serve God’s people. You’ll love what happens in your life as a result.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that God reveals to you how He wants you to “preach the Gospel.”
  • Ask God to bring people to mind that could use your help.
