The Guardian of the Home

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. -1 Peter 5:8-9 NIV

Titus 2:5 teaches that wives are to learn to be workers at home. That does not mean a maid or a slave and it doesn’t mean she’s shunning her duties if she works outside the home. It means just as husbands are to be the leaders of the home, wives are to be the guardians of the home, watching over the affairs of the household.

You can stand up against your enemy. You can fight for your home, the health of your family—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual—and your finances. As the guardian of your home, you are charged with waging war against any and all who would dare attack it.

Proverbs 31 lists several qualities of the “wife of noble character.” One of which is to be spiritually fit, as noted in verses 15 and 17. She sets protection for herself and her family by ensuring her spiritual needs are met by meeting with her Father before she begins her day. And because she gets her fill each day, she is able to work vigorously with arms that are strong enough for the task.

Pray with full spiritual defenses. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people,” as it says in Ephesians 6:13, 18.

Prayer Focus

  • Thank God that you have the ability resist the devil causing him to flee.
  • Ask God to help you to remember to pray in the Spirit.
