… As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
–Joshua 1:5 NIV
Has someone said, “Hang in there, you can do it,” when you were facing a tough situation? Or have you said it hoping to encourage someone else? But there are some things we clearly can NOT do, right? We just don’t have the strength, know-how, expertise, or all the information to bring our situation together in the right way or on the schedule we prefer.
That was definitely Joshua’s plight. However, when God commissioned him to lead the Hebrews into Canaan, He never once spoke about the talent, power, or accomplishments of Joshua. While Joshua was directed to be “strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:6-9), that determination wasn’t to come from within himself. God prefaced this daunting command with a promise of His strength and His unending presence (reread today’s verse).
Even when you’re in God’s will, you’ll sometimes face seemingly impossible situations. In those times, you can be assured: God is with you (Joshua 1:5); God is in you (John 14:17); God is for you (Romans 8:31)!
So yes, keep going and don’t give up, but not because YOU can do it. Persevere and endure knowing that even when your strength and ability fails, HIS never will.
- God, help me to trust that You will provide all the strength, wisdom, and ability to accomplish anything You call me to do.
- Jesus, You are with me. Help me believe You, see You, and trust You with whatever I encounter today.
