And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
–Philippians 4:19 NKJV
Every day we have to choose between wants and needs. We may want a new car or the latest electronic gadget. We may want the air conditioning set a little lower at work while our coworker wants the dial turned up.
But what do we really need? The Lord knows—and knows better than we do. He knows not just our physical, but also our emotional and spiritual needs. After all, He is in the business of meeting needs.
God desires to meet all of our needs, but that does not mean He will grant all of our wants. He is not a vending machine God who rewards prayers with wishes. His ways are better than ours and sometimes a gentle, “Not now,” or “It’s not in My will for you,” although painful to experience, is what is best for us.
Keep trusting Him with your wants and your needs, understanding that there is a difference between your wants and true needs. Trust that He loves you and knows what is best for you.
- Lord, help me to tell the difference between what I want and what I need, trusting that You know what is best for me.
- Thank God for knowing you intimately and generously meeting your true needs.
