Heavenly Parenting

God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children.

–Hebrews 12:7-8 MSG

In the same way earthly parents discipline their children, your heavenly Father will discipline and correct you. His discipline flows from His great love, because He doesn’t want you bound up or controlled by bad habits or wrong attitudes. Jesus died to provide your freedom, and heavenly correction ensures you won’t miss out on the good things He has for you.

Heavenly parenting is never rooted in anger or frustration. It’s intended to bring a deeper level of holiness to your life. The pains and strains of life can often impose skewed thought patterns and beliefs that require reshaping. While discipline and training are uncomfortable, it paves the way for freedom that results in peace and comfort that comes from the hand and heart of God.

In order to grow and understand your new identity, every false belief and false identity must be replaced with the truth of who you are in Christ. You’ll experience new levels of freedom as you grow in your faith and become transformed. Heavenly parenting will provide the strength and confidence to continue the journey of faith, knowing that you’re loved as God’s own child.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask God to reveal any false beliefs or false identities in your life, and replace them with your true identity in Christ.
  • Pray that you’ll recognize and respond quickly to heavenly correction, so you can experience true freedom and peace.
