Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them they will not be found.
–Psalm 37:7-10 NIV
Ask any football player and he will tell you that 100 yards is a long distance—often intimidating. To the person watching on TV, the same field seems small. When you’re under attack, the road seems never-ending, but in God’s eyes, it’s a short detour on the journey of life. God has it completely under control while you’re seeing no way out.
Don’t fret. Instead, wait on the Lord because those who have come against you will be dealt with. Doubt says, “God hasn’t taken care of this, so I guess I’ll have to.” But waiting a little while produces supernatural growth. Maybe you’re looking at those 100 yards and see only defeat. God says, “Be still,” don’t let discontent push you to act on your own. Wait for Him to move you to victory.
