“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… and your neighbor as yourself.” -Luke 10:27 ESV
In Luke Chapter 10, you find a story of Jesus being put to the test by a lawyer who doesn’t believe Jesus is who He says He is. When the lawyer mockingly asks Jesus how he can inherit eternal life, Jesus responds by telling the man he must love the Lord his God with all his heart, mind and soul; and he must love his neighbor as himself.
1) How do you love God? Love God with all your heart and soul by accepting His love. You love God because He first loved you (1 John 4:19). Once you have a revelation of how much God loves you it will become a natural reaction to return that love to Him!
Love God with your entire mind by renewing it daily through scripture. You are in a spiritual battle and you must remind yourself of the truths found in God’s Word. His Word will guide you, strengthen you and give you confidence in who you are.
2) How do you love your neighbor? Love is a verb. Use the freedom you have found to serve others (Galatians 5:13). When you see someone hurting, offer them prayer. Instead of judging someone’s actions, show them grace. Serve at your church. Volunteer at a homeless outreach. There are many ways to show someone you care, simply do to others as you would have them do to you.
- Thank God for loving you first.
- Ask God to show you how to love Him with all that you have — heart, mind and strength!
