I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
–Psalm 31:12 NIV
“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again.” Rather than a dressed egg with eyes, arms, and legs as pictured in Mother Goose books, Humpty Dumpty was actually a very large canon mounted on a wall of protection surrounding St. Mary’s Wall Church in England back in the 1600s. When an enemy attack toppled the canon, no one could restore it.
When you get toppled by an employment layoff, a traffic accident, an unruly child, a doctor’s report, or a dozen other unexpected circumstances, you think you are “forgotten as though dead.” But because you serve the King of kings, you are promised that, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18 NLT).
At times, you feel as strong as a canon or as fragile as an egg. But, hallelujah, God knows and loves you so much that He picks up every broken piece and places it perfectly where it belongs. Trust Him.
- Pray to trust God’s presence and peace in every broken area of your life.
- Pray that God will put you back together again–better than ever!
