The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. -Genesis 12:1 NIV
When God told Abram to leave everything he knew to go to a place that the Lord would show him, God was asking Abram to “rethink” or “re-examine” his security. David said, “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust,” (Psalm 40:4 ESV). The phrase his trust means “object of confidence, security.” What is the object of your confidence and security?
If your security is in material things, or even in people, you will always be disappointed because eventually everything will fail you. Only God will never let you down, because He is never changing and will always love you. Sometimes, when you put all your confidence, trust, and security in things other than Him, God will ask you to make a change, take a new job, or go away from what is familiar so that you will have no other sense of security than Him. Change isn’t easy, especially when you’ve been living the same way for a long time. But change that draws you closer to the Father and into a deeper understanding of His love for you will always be worth anything that you might have to “give up.”
- Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you anything or anyone you’ve put in place of God as your security.
- Pray for a deeper and more intimate relationship with God.
