Lean Not

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

–Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

What wonderful counsel and what a beautiful promise these verses bless us with. We all have the tendency to want to have everything under our control, especially when it pertains to our loved ones.

We want to control our children, our spouses, and the circumstances that surround us. We exhaust ourselves running around trying to “fix things” that are totally out of our control. My beloved brothers and sisters, we cannot fix our children, spouses, a difficult boss, or coworker. Bottom line: we do not have the power or ability to fix or to change what is out of our control.

Church, it is time we stop trying to lean on our own understanding. We need to make way for the Holy Spirit to take charge and let Him fix what needs fixing. Let us keep our gaze upon Jesus, the Author of our lives. Turn every situation to Jesus, no matter how dark it may seem. Acknowledge all of His ways, for His ways are good.

Lean not on your own understanding—trust Him with all of your heart. Acknowledge Him, my friend, and He will surely make your paths right.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a courageous heart so that you can freely depend on Him for all your needs.
  • Pray for the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to guide you through every difficult moment you face.
