Overcoming Doubt

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:38-39 NIV

Doubt starts in your mind and from there seeps into your heart, which is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23). What does it mean to take your thoughts captive?

As a visual, think of each of your thoughts being written down on sheets of paper. When you hold each piece in your hand, you are able to examine it. Does what you have written down match what God would say to you? If it does, you can open your hand and allow those words to enter your mind and heart. But if not, you are to tear that piece of paper into shreds, for it is nothing more than a lie meant to derail you from all that God has for you.

Pray that Holy Spirit would anoint your mind and give you the mind of Christ. Take your thoughts captive, making them obedient to Christ Jesus.  Think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and contain virtue and praise. Pray that when distractions come, you would be able to focus on the task at hand to complete the work set before you.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for focus and that God would be the beginning and the end of each of your thoughts.
  • Thank God that He is with you, always!
