Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!
–1 Corinthians 13:9 NLT
Picture this! No, this isn’t a suggestion for you to take a selfie. This is an invitation to put yourself into Bible story scenes. For example, what if you were the poor little boy who was walking home from the market with a couple of fish and some loaves of bread in his tote bag? You stop and stare for a moment at the huge gathering of people listening to someone preaching. Then some guys run up to you. Gasping, one asks, “Hey kid, do you have any food in your bag?” “Yes, sir,” you reply. “Well, we need it to feed this crowd,” he continues. “Umm…ok,” you reply. You can’t believe your eyes when after the teacher, Jesus, blessed the food and more than 5,000 people were fed! (See Matthew 14:13-21 NLT)
Or what if you were the rich tax collector who climbed up a tree to see the guy he’s been hearing so much about. What would be the expression on your face when Jesus looked up and saw you and exclaimed, “Zacchaeus! Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” (See Luke 19:1-10 NLT.)
God didn’t intend the Bible to be just another boring book; He wanted it to have personal meaning to you. The Bible can come alive to you, if you give it a try and imagine yourself as part of the story!
- Pray that you can picture yourself in different scenes in the Bible—make it a personal journey.
- Pray for confidence to openly share Bible stories with others who may not know about Mary, David, Joseph, and many others.
