Place Your Focus on Others

“Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows.” –Galatians 5:14 MSG

Do you want Jesus for what He can do for you? Or, do you follow Him to be His disciple, carry the cross and to lay your life down for those around you? True service is not based on something you feel but is an act of obedience to God.

Jesus provided the perfect example of service in John 13 when He washed the feet of His disciples. In biblical times, the washing of feet was work for the lowest of servants. Jesus humbled himself before his disciples and performed this lowly act as a sign of love and service.

As Matthew 20:28 says, Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Make sacrifices to provide the same type of servanthood that Jesus did. Will you make yourself available and obedient to the service Jesus asks of you?

As you begin to put your focus on others, rather than on yourself, you will experience true freedom.

Prayer Focus

  • Ask God to show you where you are not making the sacrifices to provide the humble service to which He has called you.
  • Pray that God brings you the opportunities to serve those around you at school, at work or in the community.
