But I [God] have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!
–Revelation 2:4 NLT
Ahhh…puppy love—that first love as a youngster when dad brings home a puppy and the whole family immediately falls in love with it. It is so soft and cuddly and cute. Everyone volunteers to feed it and walk it and everyone has the “perfect” name—how fun to name this new bundle of joy!
Then the puppy grows and chews and piddles and the family isn’t as excited. Everyone is busy, turning their attention to school, work, and everyday life. Puppy love turns to drudgery and shouts like “It’s YOUR turn to take Barkley out!”
Sometimes we get so busy with life that our excitement and joy for loving the Lord, reading the Bible, and even going to church turns into a chore—or at least into something we do out of habit. Let’s rekindle that thrill of walking with Him, chewing on the Word with Him, and cleaning up our lives so that the world can truly see Him through us!
- Ask the Holy Spirit to let you know if you need renewed vigor for loving God.
- Pray for the return of joy to your heart and excitement to your spirit for your pursuit of the Lord.
