What’s The Real Issue?

But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.” -Jonah 4:9 NIV

But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.” -Jonah 4:9 NIV

How many times have you done that? Get angry or upset about something but, as God also points out to Jonah, it’s not what was really bothering you.

But God doesn’t want you to stay in that attitude. It is God’s truth that will open your eyes and set you free. When you are free, you can dance and sing and walk in the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

When you have self-control, for example, you don’t lash out at others because of your own feelings. Instead, you take responsibility for your feelings and are able to discuss them with those who are closest to you.

There is no room for fear and doubt in trust. Those who walk in fear and doubt might be able to express one or two of the spiritual fruits, but only for a short while, since the weight of fear and doubt will overwhelm them again. One who trusts is more likely to express and enjoy the fruits of spirit.

Prayer Focus

  • Tell your heavenly Father how much you need Him.
  • Pray that God would challenge your attitude and help you to walk in freedom.
