If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
–1 John 1:9 NIV
The definition for “real” is authentic, true, and genuine. These are just a few examples found in the dictionary. What does real mean in your everyday walk as a Christian? There are no perfect Christians—not one. God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for you to take the mask off and come to Him. Tell Him what is on your heart—the good, bad, and ugly. He is calling you to be genuine and true.
Every Christian falls short at times. The Bible tells about King David who committed adultery and had one of his soldiers killed to cover up his sin. Yet God referred to King David as a man after His own heart. King David suffered consequences for his actions, but he went before the Lord being real, confessing his sin, and asking for forgiveness.
This is all your heavenly Father is asking of you. When you pray, be honest and open. Take off the mask and ‘fess up. He already knows everything about you—there is nothing you have to hide. He is an awesome God who is calling you to be genuine and true.
- Praise God for always forgiving and loving you, regardless of your actions.
- Ask the Father to help you never forget that He calls you friend. You can tell Him anything.
