Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold…but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
-1 Peter 1:18-19 NKJV
Since the early 1960’s, the Friday after Thanksgiving was the day to begin Christmas shopping. Back then accounting records were kept by hand. Red ink was used to mark losses and black indicated profits. Businesses that were “in the red” hoped that Friday would launch their losses back into the “black” (profits)…hence the term Black Friday.
When sin entered the world through Adam, it drove all of humanity in the “red”—full of debt with no hope of recovery. No possible way to approach a Holy God to receive life. But God had a plan. He sent His Son to live the perfect, sin-less life you could never achieve. With His death, He paid your debt.
Jesus is your Redeemer. Redemption means you were literally purchased from the slave market into freedom. No longer a slave to fear and death, now you belong to God, full of His eternal life.
Today as you shop for the best deals, making purchases that sellers hope will put them in the “black,” remember the One, Jesus Christ, Who gave His life and purchased you. You were “in the red”–full of debt and loss. He has redeemed you with His life bringing you from death to life.
Thank Jesus for His Blood that purchased you from death to life.
Ask Him to reveal all the benefits His death bought for you.
