The Spirit’s Prompting

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. -Galatians 5:25 ESV

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. -Galatians 5:25 ESV

Has the Holy Spirit ever prompted you to pray for someone, or prompted you to give something away? Did you do what the Spirit asked? If not, why not?

In the times that you don’t instantly do as He’s asked, you will typically have a plethora of reasons. Everything from being in the middle of something to being really tight on finances that week, to deciding to pray for them later on your own time. Today’s scripture says that we are living by the Spirit, which is why the Spirit is able to prompt you in the first place, but it also says that since we are living by the Spirit we should also follow His prompting in every part of our lives. His requests are sometimes to check the condition of the heart, to see if you’ll put Him and His requests before yourself.

In Galatians 5:16, Paul encourages us to live our whole lives by the Holy Spirit so that we won’t give in to the cravings of our sinful nature. And in verses 22-23, he describes the fruit that the Spirit produces in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In order to have these all of the time, it’s necessary to follow the Spirit’s leading in every area of our lives.

Are you ready for a change? Are you ready to receive and produce the kind of fruit that the Spirit produces? If so, all it takes is to follow His leading in every area of your life.
