We were also chosen to belong to him. God decided to choose us long ago in keeping with his plan. He works out everything to fit his plan and purpose.
–Ephesians 1:11 NIRV
Have you ever felt envious of people and their talents? Maybe they do something you can’t do. Or maybe they do something you actually can do, and yet it seems they beat you to it or get recognized for it when you’ve been working at the same thing.
Here’s the good news! God has called you to a specific purpose for your life. He has a plan that involves you, and only you can fulfill. So don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. They can’t steal your thunder. Applaud them instead, maybe even ask them for help. Knowing that someone else has found their calling should be celebrated, especially when you let it sink into your heart that it doesn’t affect the outcome of God’s plan for your life.
Start asking God to show you your purpose, and listen to His direction. It is so peaceful when you rest in God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), that He “has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
- Pray that the Holy Spirit will remove all envy, and instead prompt you to rejoice in other people’s accomplishments.
- Pray that God would give you direction in His purpose and plan for your life.
