The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
–Exodus 14:14 NIV
“Be still.” It sounds like such a simple command, but it is often the most difficult to follow when we find ourselves in tough situations. As we go through trials in life, we want to figure a way out and take matters into our own hands. We try to do everything but sit back and be still.
Learning to trust God in every aspect of your life is definitely something that takes practice. When it comes to your finances, marriage, career, and parenting your children, it may seem easier to consult with family, friends, or even your therapist. However, God’s Word provides all the answers you will ever need. So consult Him instead.
Often He will point you in the right direction right away. Other times, the answers are found in the waiting. Either way, you can trust that He will always have your best interest at heart. The well-known verse Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that He has a plan for you, which is a plan to “prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So trust that when He tells you to be still and let Him fight for you—He will.
- Pray that you will always remember to seek God’s counsel before making major decisions in your life.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for an abundance of patience when God tells you to be still.
