She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
–Proverbs 31:27-29 NIV
While Proverbs 31 paints a lovely picture of what being a mother looks like in a perfect household, where the children and husband both praise and admire everything she does, any woman with young children knows that it can often be a thankless job. Even moms with adult children may never get the praise they deserve.
As mothers, you may often find yourself feeling weary, tired, and worn out. It seems like such hard work and with very little confirmation to ever really know if you’re “doing it right.” So today, on Mother’s Day, spend some time listening to your Creator. Let Him refresh you. Know that just as He knit you together in your mother’s womb, He knit your children in your womb. He has a purpose for your life that included trusting you to raise your children into what He’s created them to be.
When you think of the responsibility of it all, don’t get overwhelmed. Teach your children about Him. Raise them in His love. Release them into their God-given purpose. They may never thank you, but you can listen for God’s still small voice saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
- Pray that the Holy Spirit will give you His fruits in your interactions with your children.
- Pray that all mothers around the world today would receive an encouraging word of some kind.
