Walking with a Limp

So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip. -Genesis 32:30-31 NIV

There are two types of limping in life; the earthly kind and the ones that come from heavenly encounters. While earthly limps can diminish and discourage you, a heavenly limp can equip and empower you.

When Jacob encountered and wrestled with the angel of the Lord, he received a heavenly limp. Heavenly limps often lead to graciousness, humility and sincerity that will result in an increase of faith and a sense of divine purpose. Some earthly limps are the result of past experiences, while others can be brought on by fears about the future or discouragement over current challenges. Earthly limps can also come through wounds from others or shame over past mistakes.

God is able to restore the areas of your life where an earthly limp has hindered your walk. Whatever the source of your limp, God knows exactly how to meet you and help you to overcome it.

A heavenly limp will be seen in a transformed heart that reflects the character of Christ. This kind of limp is a sign of honor because you love God enough to wrestle for your destiny and depend on Him for your victory.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for God’s healing power to restore the areas of your life where an earthly limp has hindered your walk.
  • Pray for strength as you wrestle for your destiny and depend on God for your victory.
