Wisdom Vs. Assumptions

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. -Psalm 9:10 NIV

Wisdom – Knowledge of what is true and right coupled with just judgment as to actions.

Assumptions – Something taken for granted; arrogance.

Assumptions can lead to the embarrassment of the assumer. The devil knows that embarrassment can lead to shame and shame to a lack of trusting God. You don’t have to walk in assumptions. Because of the Holy Spirit, you can walk in wisdom. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

What are your assumptions? Maybe your assumptions are about a child or a job or house or car or a relationship. Don’t assume that just because God opens a door means that it’s going to hold the exact promise in the exact way you envisioned it. Maybe this door is a blessing you weren’t expecting. Maybe it’s a stepping stone toward another door to lead you to that promise.

Or maybe this door isn’t meant for you to walk through at all. All of these possibilities are exactly why it’s important to seek God continuously. When God makes a promise, He swears by Himself, putting His own reputation on the line. God doesn’t always give us the promise in the way we had envisioned it. But more often than not, it’s because His ways and His plans are far greater than you could ever imagine.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for the knowledge of God’s will and the wisdom to act on it.
  • Pray and thank God for His plan that is far greater than our own plans.
