Wisdom Calls

Does not wisdom call out?
Does not understanding raise her voice? …
beside the gate leading into the city,
at the entrance, she cries aloud:
“To you, O people, I call out;
I raise my voice to all mankind. -Proverbs 8:1, 3-4 NIV

Wisdom is available! It’s not hidden! In fact, as these verses say, it calls out to “all mankind.” God is always moving in the world, beckoning people to make the first and wisest decision in their lives: to know Him. He has strategically positioned counselors to be present to guide everyone. Parents, teachers, pastors, friends, books, and, of course, God’s Word, are available to lead you into relationship with the Lord. Even the natural world declares its Maker. Romans 1:18-20 says there’s enough evidence in creation to set a person on the right track to find truth.

The path to wisdom has many markers. One must willfully turn a deaf ear to miss it. Think about how many people own Bibles who never open them, turn away from fabulous teaching on TV & radio, and drive past vibrant churches. Jesus revealed the reason for this attitude in John 3:19. He said, “people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”

Fortunately, you can avoid the disaster of ignoring the ways of God by first trusting Christ as your Savior. Once you enter a relationship with Him, you have true wisdom, the Light of the world, living within you. His promise to you is “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” John 8:12.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray for sensitivity to God and the willingness to yield to His wise guidance.
  • Ask God to shine His light on any areas in your life that gravitate toward darkness.
