A Form of Godliness

They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! –2 Timothy 3:5 NLT

A Form of Godliness

The church of Ephesus, which was a strong congregation of believers in the first century, was slowly diminishing into a flickering flame that once blazed as a spiritual fire. Their first love of Jesus was being replaced by a form of religion.

If this decline happened to this strong congregation, it must be taken as a warning for the Church in every generation.

Revelation 2:4 (NLT) says, “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!” We must keep our focus on Jesus and who He is. Let us not become, as Pastor Rick Renner says in one of his devotionals, “doctrinally sophisticated yet spiritually powerless.”

Help us, Holy Spirit, to come to a place where our desire is to know Him, to love Him, to walk with Him, to serve Him, and to please Him in everything we say and do.

Help us to wake each morning thanking Him for all that He has done in our lives. He is truly an amazing God. Help us to be relevant to this generation and teach them how to truly live on fire for the King of kings.

Repent and turn back. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of the passion you felt in your heart when you first came to know Jesus.

Don’t allow the cares and concerns of this life come between you and Jesus. Repent and turn around, for He is waiting with open arms!
