All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
–Revelation 21:7 NLT
What an awesome responsibility to raise a child in today’s world! They are sponges soaking up what they hear and see, and then imitating those same behaviors. As their parent, you are their role model, and they will copy your actions and repeat your words.
As a believer, you get to live a life that looks drastically different from the rest of the world – because your role model is Christ. “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children” Ephesians 5:1 (NLT). When you imitate God, your children will see godly, loving parents, which will have a positive outcome. Psalm 37:25-26 (MSG) reminds you, “I once was young, now I’m a graybeard—not once have I seen an abandoned believer, or his kids out roaming the streets. Every day he’s out giving and lending, his children making him proud.” Who are your children modeling?
- Read the Old Testament Proverbs for wisdom and instruction as you raise your children.
- Ask God to direct your path—fill you with His love and Word so your life is an example for your children to follow.
