God Wants You To Enjoy Life

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. ~ Ecclesiastes 8:15 NIV

A baby’s laughter. A beautiful sunrise. Hanging out with friends. A good book. A box of chocolates. There are many things and ways that we can enjoy life. With so many opportunities at every turn, it’s alarming to realize that one in ten Americans experience depression at some point in their lives.

Why is that? More often than not it’s because we’ve let our circumstances dictate our enjoyment of life. When circumstances are calm and favorable, we more easily enjoy the simple things in life. When they are chaotic, we let even the little things stress us out and the enjoyment of life seems like a fleeting memory.

So what’s the secret? It’s our perspective. When we keep our focus on the promises found in God’s Word and on His love for us, our big and scary circumstances seem much smaller and are more easily dealt with, leaving more time to enjoy life.

That’s what God really wants for us: to enjoy life. It’s through our enjoyment of life and the joy we carry about us that attracts others to Him. If we are down in the dumps all the time, we don’t make a relationship with God look attractive..

Prayer Focus

  • Is there anything in my life that’s been robbing me of my joy?
  • Which of God’s promises can help me keep my focus on Him when life gets rough?
