Elijah was afraid and ran for his life… “I have had enough, Lord,” he said…
–1 Kings 19:3-4 NIV
In August and September, 2017, many were afraid and ran for their lives when Hurricanes Harvey and Irma targeted Texas and Florida. Some people were panicked by the 24-7, worst-case scenario news coverage. Some cautiously considered the news and “hunkered down” at home. In the end, everyone did what they thought necessary to stay safe.
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life from “Hurricane Jezebel” who was determined to kill him. But the Lord sent an angel who touched him and told him to “Get up and eat.” Likewise, the Lord sent an army of angels to Texas and Florida who watched over His people, touching them in many ways through the kindness and compassion of thousands of faithful people who provided assistance. Reports indicate that Christian groups provided 75 percent of immediate hurricane relief—and the victims were so very thankful to see God in action.
When you think you’ve “had enough” of life and consider tossing in the towel, get ready for an angelic touch. And remember, “There was always enough…just as the Lord had promised through Elijah” (1 Kings 17:16 NLT).
- Pray that God will give you the courage to reach out to others in need.
- Pray that others will see God in you as you touch them with hope.
