Our Relationship With Others: Do Life With The Right People
At some point in your life, you have probably experienced hurt inflicted by someone you trusted. It may have been a friend, a boss, or a family member. Hurts like these cause a deep pain and a feeling of distrust. A very natural reaction to this pain is to begin building walls around your heart.
Your hope is that these walls will protect and keep you from any future pain. In reality, they will only bring more pain upon you. When you build such walls, you begin to tell yourself that no one can be trusted. You begin to shut people out before they get too close and push people away for fear of loss, rejection, or betrayal. You may even make excuses—“people are fake,” or “I’m better off alone.”
The decision to do life alone leaves you in a very dangerous position: vulnerable and susceptible to deceit. God designed you for relationships, and He knows that two people are stronger than one. He places people in your life to strengthen you and encourage you. The key to this, however, is with whom you choose to surround yourself. Proverbs 13:20 (ESV) says, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” God will help you to choose your relationships wisely.
Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed and want to help you grow closer with God. When you have such people in your life, you will strengthen each other as you become open with one another. God doesn’t want you to live alone; He wants to surround you with people to talk to, cry with, and laugh with!
Thank God for the relationships you have in your life. Are they pushing you closer to God or drawing you away from Him?
Ask God to help you identify someone you can trust and do life with.
