Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Our Relationship With Others: Prioritizing Family

Are you aware that too many outside duties and commitments can detour you away from the effective ministry God has entrusted to your care? It’s true.

God loves a servant’s heart; but if He has blessed you with a family, then you are responsible to take good care of what He has entrusted to you. If you are married, your ministry is toward your spouse. If you have children, your ministry is toward them, too. Priorities need to start in the home—and then spread to careers, important friendships, and ministerial pursuits.

Refuse to allow too many outside obligations to steal your vital role as a spouse, a parent, a child, or a friend. Make a commitment within your home to serve, respect, and value others, as God would have it.

As written in Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV), “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Allow God to be the third strand that binds your family together.

Pray that God would search your heart and let you know if you have been neglecting important responsibilities within your family.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you know what is truly important to God, your family life, and all other pursuits.
