…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.
–Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
The runner, before setting off on a race, must prepare for it beforehand. They must prepare by training physically, mentally, and emotionally—and set the goal of running toward the finish line and winning.
You, as a believer and follower of Christ, are in a race. And like race participants, you must train your body, spirit, and soul. This is done through fasting, praying, and staying in the Word and His presence. You also need to set a goal—to fight the good fight (see 1 Timothy 1:18) and run the race set before you and win. Hebrews in 12:1 (NIV) says, “… let us throw off everything that hinders [the state of being held back or slowed down] and the sin that so easily entangles [to ensnare; to trap]….”
So dear friend, let us not focus on petty issues and differences. Let us fix our gaze on the beautiful face of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Run the race and do not stop running until you see the face of Jesus.
- Holy Spirit, give me the spiritual stamina, strength, and resilience to press on to run the race and win.
- Help me, Lord, not to lose my focus on You and to maintain eye contact with You in this race.
