And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing.
–Psalm 71:9 NLT
People speak of the Golden Years with such anticipation. They look forward to a time of enjoyment—traveling, hobbies, sleeping in, and so much more. However, that can get old quickly and is not as fulfilling as many may think. They may begin to lose their purpose and start to get bored and feel disheartened. This change of roles is part of the aging process and eventually can happen to anyone. The clock can’t be turned back.
Our years become past memories, but we still have a future. When we are followers of Christ, the years are truly golden. They are filled with godly wisdom that should be passed on to future generations. The latter years of every Christian’s life should be our best. A good start is a wonderful thing, but a good finish is even better.
We should impart to others encouragement and knowledge. Let us not settle into complacency. God has more for us to do. As Isaiah 46:4 (NLT) tells us, “I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” Our Golden Years are a gift for God’s use.
- Long life is a gift from God. Be thankful and blessed.
- Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to fulfill your purpose through your Golden Years.
