But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. –Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
My husband and I found ourselves in tough times as the economy caused him to lose his job. With two small children, it was indeed frightening.
There was a woman in our church who was very stern, and she kept to herself most of the time. One day, as I literally sat in my closet praying, this woman showed up at our front door. She cut to the chase and informed me that she was told in prayer to help us. I, of course, pretended that everything was just fine. She told me to lose the pride and help her get something out of her vehicle.
Her car, including the trunk, was filled with groceries; I had never seen so much food. After we put everything away, she announced that she was taking us all out to dinner. Only God knew about our struggle. At dinner, I discovered that she was an amazing, godly woman with a big heart, just very introverted. I thanked her profusely—her kindness was overwhelming.
Matthew 25:40 tells us that what we do for others, we do for Him. That day this woman displayed the fruit of the Spirit of kindness. Her actions of kindness spoke louder than words ever could.
- Ask the Father to help you walk in the fruit of the Spirit daily.
- Pray for spiritual eyes that see where kindness is needed and then act on that need.
