Christmas Legend

The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! –Luke 2:11 NLT

The Christmas tree tradition is credited to Germany back in the 16th century. The story behind the legend of Father Christmas (Santa Claus) belongs to a monk named Saint Nicholas who was born in AD 280. It is believed that Saint Nicholas was admired for his piety and kindness, and thus, Saint Nicholas became the subject of many legends. Kris Kringle, Santa Claus, also called St. Nick, no matter which name you call him, everyone knows the story of this plump, jolly, gift-bringing man who comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve. This story adds to the commercialized season, and it is easy to get swept away in the excitement. However, the real meaning of Christmas should cause all people to rejoice. A deeper implication and more lasting than all the tinsel and glitter that surrounds us is the gift that God’s love was sent down to the world that day in Bethlehem. As Luke 2:11 tells us, “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!” This is not a legend or sweet story—it is our hope for eternity. God so loved us that He sent His Son. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift. Jesus is here! The true meaning to celebrate.
