Tuesday | July 2 | Unanswered Prayer

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. –2 Peter 3:9 NIV

You’re facing trying circumstances. Day after day, week after week, perhaps year after year, you’ve prayed. However, you see no change. You believe, you trust, and you wait, but you’re beginning to wonder if God is even listening. Have you experienced this?

Over the years I’ve learned something that’s revolutionized my way of looking at seemingly unanswered prayers. Did you know that you’re being continually watched? People all around you are observing the way you react to disappointment, rejection, and despair. They’re waiting to see how you handle all that life throws at you. When they see your faith, your response to life’s drama, it encourages them to believe too. Your positive reactions spur them on to victory.

So, perhaps the delay in our unanswered prayer isn’t because we haven’t prayed enough. It isn’t because the Father isn’t listening or doesn’t care. Perhaps, it’s because the answer affects one hundred people, not just you. When we see it from that perspective, the wait doesn’t seem as bad. Take courage; God will answer your prayers in His time and in His way. God will answer when He is ready.

Prayer Focus

  • Pray that instead of complaining, you might ask God, “What am I supposed to learn from this period of waiting, Lord?”
  • Trust His timing for your life.
