Wednesday | October 9 | Super Powers

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. –Psalm 139:1-4 NIV

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Flying, super strength, or invisibility? Mine would be the ability to read other people’s minds. I would love to know what someone was really thinking and not just what they were saying. It might be uncomfortable or even hurtful to hear the truth, but at least it would be honest.

I would rather hear the truth than what they think I want to hear. If someone was being particularly rude or unkind, just maybe I could see the real pain behind their behavior. If I could see the pain, perhaps I just might be more understanding and patient with them. In the process, I just might actually also learn something about myself.

Seeing ourselves through someone else’s eyes would be very humbling, and I also believe that it could bring change for the better. I’m glad the Father sees us through eyes of love and knows everything we’re thinking, yet He still loves us deeply.

Father, give me Your eyes for just one second, open my heart that I might see, and make me more like You and less like me. This should be the cry of every hungry heart.

Prayer Focus

  • The Lord knows our thoughts before we do, He is always listening. Pray for eyes to see and ears to hear.
  • Pray for grace to accept truth.
