My daughter has just died. But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live. -Matthew 9:18 ESV
Most people wouldn’t bother making a request of Jesus if their daughter had died. They would assume it was over, that nothing further could be done, and they would begin to mourn their loss.
Not so for this girl’s father. Having heard the many stories about the healing miracles of Jesus, the rich ruler sent word to Jesus and said, “But come.”
In essence, he said, “I know how it looks. The facts say it’s over and there’s nothing more to be done, but I trust You to make the outcome different than it appears. I trust that You have the power and the authority to overcome what everyone else says is hopeless.”
It took a lot of confidence for the ruler to approach Jesus in this manner. Are your requests of Jesus this bold, or do they sound more like this: “If You could, if it’s in Your will and not too much trouble, please make this change”?
Hebrews 4:16 says to “come boldly to the throne of grace,” so that you may receive grace and mercy in your time of need. The ruler’s need had never been greater. Knowing that Jesus had the power and authority to change his situation, he went boldly. If there’s something in your life that looks dead, seek out the Healer and boldly say, “But come.”
- Thank God that He has the power and authority to change your circumstances.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you to boldly approach the throne of grace.
